The Century High School Class of 1984 monthly update
October 2004

Hello Everyone,

The progress looks good on tracking classmates down.  I am slowly taking names off the "Where Are You Now" list and adding them to the Roll Call page.  Please if your name is NOT on the roll call list email me.  All you have to do is say,  "Here I am." And an address would be a bonus too.
Some letters I sent out were return to sender address unknown.  I have put an asterisk by their name.  So if you know where there are now please let me know.
I have heard from some folks from other CHS graduating classes.  They really like our website.  So I am inviting classes 1981 thru 1987 to the message boards & profiles if they like.  Eventually if we get a lot of folks I will separate the classes.  One 86 grad is still in contact with Christopher Girard.  She is going to contact him and let him know about our website.  He is married with kids and living in France.  I have made contact with others thru siblings.  So little by little we will hopefully find everyone.
I have also heard from two teachers so far.  Though it wasn't that tough as they are still at Century teaching.  If anyone knows where our teachers went after they left Century please contact me.
As I was looking thru the Bismarck Tribune online I noticed the following.  "
Son, Thomas and Jill Ackerman, Bismarck, 7:44 p.m., Sept. 30".  Does anyone know if that's Jill Olson?
And speaking of children,  we have some classmates who have twins and even triplets.  The following have twins:  Barry Coleman, Jenni Kersey-Russell and Dan Trottier has triplets.  Do you know any others with twins or triplets, pass it on!

Please take a couple of minutes to fill out your profile.  They have been real fun to read.  You can answer as many questions as you like.  And the message boards are open to you.  You can start your own discussion or just post a message or memory.
Remember to keep sending me your pictures.   They can be pictures from high school or any reunion.  Or you can send a picture of you and your family.  Also here is a list of some topics I would love to feature in the upcoming newsletter.  Vacations,  New Job,  New Move,  Life Happenings.  We would love to hear you stories.  You latest vacation or a new job or promotion or your move to a new city or state or any happening or adventure in your life.
Email me with your story.
I hope everyone has enjoyed this website.  Please keep the information coming!  And have a safe and Happy Halloween!

NEW JOB

I have been a stay-at-home mom for 5 years.  I worried about my new career as I knew I wouldn't get back into TV and I wanted hours to match my son's when he starts school.  So this summer I guess it just dropped into my lap.  Michael's preschool was looking for a teacher's assistant for a 3 year old class and they called me.  Now I am Miss Tammy to a group of 3 year olds.  I work a whopping 6 hours a week but at least I have my foot in the door for next year when Michael goes back to school.  Tammy (Thomson) Forsyth

REMEMBER WHEN...
I seem to remember around Halloween time one year during high school of someone's trailer or pick-up full of pumpkins.  The memory is vague but I can still remember a heaping load of pumpkins wondering what we were going to do with them all.  I don't remember what ever happened to them.

BISMARCK NEWS

Highland Acres was one of three North Dakota schools named as a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon school.  Highland Acres was selected because students achieved in the top 10% on state tests over the last three years. During that time, fourth-graders had an average proficiency of 95% in reading and 86% in math. Those scores were highest in the Bismarck school district.

North Dakota's 141st Engineer Combat Battalion, which is based in Valley City but has detachments in other cities, including Bismarck has been deployed in Iraq since February.  Recently they lost a solider, 33 year old Lance Koenig.  He was helping his unit clear roads of bombs near Tikrit.  He was from Carrington and an All-American wrestler for NDSU.  He is the 3rd member of his unit and the 6th North Dakota soldier to die in Iraq.  In Iraq, the 141st is assigned to Task Force Trailblazer, a mission that has them sweeping a major highway for roadside bombs. Soldiers work around the clock on three-hour patrols, scanning the road and ditches for signs of explosives. Since March 15, the unit has discovered 150 bombs and cleared about 124,000 miles of roadway.  The 141st also is taking part in Operation Backpack Iraq, where it will distribute about 750 backpacks to elementary-age students, once school begins in October. The backpacks were donated by North Dakotans.

CHS HAPPENINGS

Well the Patriots have been back to school for a little over a month and they have been busy.  Last week was Homecoming week for CHS.  Some things haven't changed like Mr. CHS, Dress Up Days (60's, Camo, Western, Red White & Blue) & Coronation.  But some things have changed.  They had a dance with some additions.  You needed a student id to get in and breathalyzers were used.  Century students also added a few other events to there week.  Tye Dye night, pre-game face painting, a dunking booth, dirty mud fight (?) and instead of Homecoming buttons they sold t-shirts.  Some students also got free temporary hair dye's.  They played Mandan that night and won 27-0.

They will perform Oklahoma for the fall play.

Freshman Thomas Welk from Century took 2nd in the State Boys Tennis Singles & Century took 5th place over Williston.

The students also took part in a mock election.  The voting went as follows: George W. Bush & Dick Cheney 65% ,  John Kerry & John Edwards 21%, Ralph Nader & Peter Miguel Camejo 12%, Michael Badnarik & Richard Campagna 2%, Michael Peroutka & Dr. Chuck Baldwin 1%.
