The Century High School Class of 1984 monthly update
August 2004

Hello Everyone,

Now that most of the website is started I can focus on the newsletter.  I want this to be "our" newsletter, a place to stay in touch and share with our classmates what's happening/happened with you.  I hope everyone will feel comfortable enough to share the happy things in their lives and maybe some of the sad stuff too.  I need your input to make this happen.

Sections will include, recent marriages, anniversaries, birthdays, new babies, job changes, moving around, business ventures, Bismarck news, Patriot highlights, in memory of and get wells.  Email me with any information/pictures you would like to share about yourself, your family or your child's successes.  There will also be a section "Remember when..., where you share an old high school memory or memories (good ones).

I am writing this newsletter from Maryland and have only been back to Bismarck twice since 1989 so I am a little out of touch with the happenings there.  I will be using the Bismarck Tribune on line.  But I am counting on those living there to help me keep updated on the news and changes in the city.

The only way this newsletter can work is if everyone contributes a little or a lot.  If anyone wants to write a feature or regular article or help with the newsletter or website let me know.  Please realize your input is what makes this newsletter work, without it it will cease to exist.  I hope you get involved, check back regularly and stay in touch with those whom you share a common bond.

I am also wanting to start two other projects:
1)   To contact every 1984 classmate so they can have a chance to share this website and our reunions or decline if they so desire.  If you would like to help in the search, drop me a line.

2)   Reunion scrapbooks.  I guess that's what I'll call them.  At the 20 year reunion I brought my scrapbook.  It was great to look back at the articles and pictures.  But my collection was very limited on all that happened in high school.  I would love to put others together, swimming, drama club, parties & etc.  If you have any articles or pictures I would love to put them together in a scrapbook.  You could mail me copies of what you have and I'll put it together and bring to the next reunion.  I will also get the pictures to Roger for the slide show.

REMEMBER WHEN...
....sleeping in meant 'til noon or 1 pm?  Now 8am is a luxury.  No more late night parties at the desert or double ditch, watching movies all night, dragging main street until midnight knowing you could sleep in in the morning.  Now there's a young child screaming from a crib or jumping on your bed or a job waiting for you.  So keep enjoying those early morning coffee's or diet coke's.

BIRTHDAYS

BISMARCK NEWS

Raging Rivers Water Park in Mandan has a new system of identifying season pass holders.  Water park employees scan the fingerprints of pass holders before they gain entrance to the park.  Pass holders place their fingers on a machine that scans the prints and then relays the data up to the park's main office, where a computer database checks the print to make sure the kid at the front is really who he or she claims to be.

Bismarck School Board members unanimously approved a grant request that will put security cameras in Wachter middle school and Bismarck, Century and South Central high schools.  Simle, Horizon and the vocational education building already have video surveillance but will receive additional ones through the grant.  The cameras will be placed in high traffic areas and will be used to monitor computer labs.  Although Bismarck in not considered a high crime area administrators say the cameras are still necessary.

Bismarck upset Minot 11 -0 via the 10-run rule and won the championship of the  2004 North Dakota State Babe Ruth Tournament.  As the state champion, Bismarck advances to the Midwest Plains regional tournament in Lamar, Colo., beginning Aug. 5.

Dickinson State track standout Aaron Cleare, junior, is headed for the Olympic Games in Athens as a member of the Bahamas national team.  Cleare qualified for the Games as a member of the 1,600-meter relay team.  He is the defending NAIA national champion in the 400.
