Science teacher Nancy (Jacobson) Bruns has been chosen as the 2003-2004 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley
Education Minnesota Teacher of the year.
Bruns, a graduate of Century High School in Bismarck, N.D., and of Concordia
College in Moorhead, has been a teacher at WHA since 1991.
While at Concordia, she majored in biology and health education, and played
basketball on the NCAA Division III National Championship team.
Before moving to the Walker area, she taught and coached for two years in Oakes,
N.D.
She is married to WHA graduate Brian Bruns. They have two daughters, Riley and
Hailey. Bruns volunteers her time as a Sunday School Teacher and Girl Scout
Troop Leader.
Some highlights include the exchange trip to Miass, Russia; laughing with
co-workers; keeping in touch with former students; and getting a chance to make
a difference in her student's lives daily.
