The Dating Game: Real hearts and real life
BURNSVILLE, MN June 2002 - Reality TV may be taking the
dating game to a whole new level, but dating in real life
often resembles Fear Factor more than the Love Boat. Meeting
the right person takes a more personal touch than TV shows
or most dating services can offer, which is why Burnsville
entrepreneur Andrea Johnson has created The Matchmaking
Connection.
Johnson believes it takes a heart to match two hearts, which
is why she will personally screen potential dates for all
members of The Matchmaking Connection.
“I offer a more personalized approach to matchmaking because
I interview and match every client myself,” Johnson says.
“We can save our members time and money by weeding out
singles who don’t fit their criteria.”
Membership in The Matchmaking Connection is $300. For this
up-front fee, members are guaranteed 10 face-to-face dates.
Johnson will conduct extensive personal interviews with each
member, covering areas such as family, education, job,
religion, hobbies, and a wide range of likes and dislikes.
And Johnson, not a computer, will decide whether two members
could be compatible.
She believes in the personal connection. “I’ve been
frustrated with dating services who kept sending me profiles
of men who didn’t meet any of my criteria and who weren’t
interested in why I wasn’t satisfied,” Johnson says. “I want
my clients to be very satisfied. If two members talk on the
phone and decide there is no chemistry between them, then
it’s not a match.”
Johnson says membership will be selective and that she’s
already turned people away. “I won’t take a client if I
don’t think I can make a successful match,” she says.
Johnson is offering incentives during her summer membership
drive. If a person refers someone who joins, she'll pay that
person $20. If someone refers 20 new members by Aug. 1,
she'll up the bonus to $50 per member, for a total of
$1,000!
More than 250 people have called
Johnson since she launched The Matchmaking Connection in
April and hundreds more have visited her website:
Johnson was interviewed by the hosts of the KARE 11 Today
show on June 10. "It was so much fun. I really enjoyed
talking about my dating tips with Roxanne Battle and Pat
Evans," she says. Johnson also gave her dating tips over the
radio waves to B96's morning show host Scrappy.
“More and more people are joining every day,” Johnson says.
“The Matchmaking Connection is proof that you don’t have to
pay thousands for a quality dating service with a personal
touch.”
